Duet 1: tinypistol

Alex carrington

Alex Carrington received the majority of her training at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and the LINES Ballet Training Program. She has danced for tinypistol, detour dance, little seismic dance company, Margaret Jenkins Dance Company and Kristin Damrow & Company.

Chelsea reichert

Chelsea Reichert is a freelance dance artist originally from Kansas, and currently based in the Bay Area. She received a BFA in dance from Marymount Manhattan College, and also studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance. She’s grateful for the friends and teachers inside and outside of these structures that have influenced her work deeply. Since living in the Bay Area, she’s had the pleasure of creating and performing with Maurya Kerr/tinypistol, Sharp&Fine, kickbal, Courtney Mazeika, Kinetech Arts, Nicole von Arx, Larry Arrington, Risa Jaroslow, and Emily Hansel.

Alexander diaz

Alexander Diaz is an independent artist born and raised in The Bronx. Alex works with dance, theater, and performance art in order to explore memory, re imagine history, and create environments that facilitate awareness of self and the performance of self in relation to others. Alex began his training with the Bronx Dance Academy and Bronx Dance Theater, and is a graduate of the University of The Arts in Philadelphia and the Alonzo King LINES Ballet Training Program in San Francisco. Alex has had the pleasure of working with nathantrice/RITUALS, Christal Brown’s INSPIRIT, Ray Mercer, Fredrick Earl Mosley and Earl Mosley’s Diversity of Dance, Sara Shelton Mann, LEVYdance, and is currently a member of Maurya Kerr's tinypistol. Alex presented Getting Closer To Coral as part of the 2019 Double Plus Series at GIBNEY curated by Charmaine Warren, and in the 2020 Black Choreographers Festival held at Dance Mission, SF. Alexander was an artist in residence with PEPATIÁN’s 2021 Dancing Futures: Artist & Mentor Collaborative Residency, with mentor Maurya Kerr, and was recently awarded a 2022 BRIO award (Bronx Recognizes Its Own) from the Bronx Council on the Arts. Alex currently sits on the Junior Board of Earl Mosley’s Diversity of Dance.

Syd Franz is a dancer / improviser / drag king based in Brooklyn. Their work emphasizes collaboration, creative play, and rigorous movement research to continuously explore identity, community, and queer joy. Some of their greatest influences include Summer Lee Rhatigan, Eric Garcia, Christian Burns, Rosalynde LeBlanc, John Todd, and Erica Sobol. While originally from Houston, TX, they earned degrees in dance and graphic design from Loyola Marymount University in LA, studied and worked at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, and taught for the Alonzo King LINES Ballet Training Program. Lately they’ve been digging into devised physical theatre, dreaming up highly choreographed group drag numbers, and exploring the fundamentals of mime theatre technique.

Gabriele Christian is an Oakland-based conceptual artist and descendent of stolen folk experimenting within somatic practices, language, performance composition, video production and community arts facilitation to locate and center BlaQ (Black and Queer) experience, vernaculars and aesthetics as wellsprings for radical futurity. They are a founding member of BlaQ-led projects: &theruptureisnow; OYSTERKNIFE; and blaQyard. They’ve been involved internationally in multimedia productions and processes with choreographers, collectives and companies like jose e. abad/fugitivity labs, LXS DXS, Sherwood Chen, Lenora Lee Dance, SAMMAY, Skywatchers (ABD Productions), Kim Ip, Mica Sigourney/OX Productions, Sara Shelton Mann, Robert Woodruff, Joe Goode Performance Group, Jess Curtis/Gravity, WePlayers, Larkin Street Youth Services, Destiny Arts Center, et hella al. With this experience, they've also empowered the work and stories of Blind and Visually Impaired (BVI) folk, black and brown youth, Tenderloin residents, and LGBTQ+ elders. At the heart of all of their work, they strive to excavate oral tradition and movement as conduits for equitable conversations around belonging, spirit, desirability, abundance, and care.

melissa lewis WONG

Melissa Lewis Wong (she/they/他, SF/Hilo) is a queer, biracial Chinese American artist working with mixedness, mother tongues, tube tops, and drag. Deuce Lee is their drag king persona—queering the traditional Chinese Opera face and exploring their mixed diaspora, through the lens of Bruce Lee's legacy and artistry. Her physicality comes from a background of traditional Chinese folk arts, Western modern dance, and martial arts—with contemporary performance as a place for her intersections to breathe. Melissa is also a photographer and an arts administrator.
