Detour is a devised dance-theater ensemble based in San Francisco. We create immersive and site-responsive experiences that are oriented towards queer lineages and legacies, present-day complexities, and future-facing possibilities.
ERIC GARCIA
CO-DIRECTOR
Eric Garcia is equal parts devised theater artist, dance filmmaker, drag queen, and community organizer, with a penchant for queer maximalism. He creates immersive and site-specific performances that straddle nostalgia, radical futurism, high theatrics, and connection. He works towards accessing the full potential of bodies in space, performer and audience alike.
Eric, also known as Churro Nomi, hosts & produces Clutch The Pearls, a monthly drag cabaret in San Francisco’s Mission District.
He has created works with OddKnock Productions, Amie Dowling, 13th Floor, Sharp & Fine, FACT/SF, The Anata Project, LEVYdance, Project Thrust, Catherine Galasso, Arletta Anderson/Adam Smith, students of the University of San Francisco, the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, and many others.
Eric proudly serves as Managing Director with Fresh Meat Productions, Sean Dorsey Dance, and the San Francisco Transgender Film Festival.
KAT GOROSPE COLE
CO-DIRECTOR
Kat Gorospe Cole is a Bay-Area based director and producer working in film and live performance.
She has had the pleasure of performing for 13th Floor Dance Theater, Amie Dowling, EmSpace Dance, and number 9 dance. She formerly served as Development Manager and later Program Manager for CounterPulse, and has worked in production and arts management for several other Bay Area arts organizations. She has been a guest lecturer and choreographer at the University of San Francisco and her writing has been published in InDance.
Her work in the performing arts has led her to delve further into visual storytelling. She holds an MFA in Film from California College of the Arts. She has worked as an Associate Producer for Academy and Emmy-winning directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, and is currently assistant to director Boots Riley. She was a Co-Founder and Producer of the Black X Film Festival, an online festival showcasing Black creators. Her short films have screened in over 25 festivals including Hot Docs, NewFest, CAAMfest, Los Angeles Asian Pacific American Film Festival, New Orleans Film Festival and Outfest. She was awarded Best Bay Area Director from the Coven Film Festival.
She moonlights as her drag persona, Sir Acha.
